Twilio + Blooio Hybrid Mode
Start on your Twilio SMS number, then hand off to your Blooio iMessage number when the customer engages. Pre and post messages can be added automatically by the Blooio layer.
Blooio does not make your Twilio number send iMessages. Twilio and Apple don't allow that. Hybrid Mode bridges two numbers: Twilio for SMS, and your Blooio number for iMessage. The integration is free as long as you have a Blooio number; you only pay Twilio's own SMS rates.
What is Hybrid Mode?
Hybrid Mode is a Blooio feature that lets you message a customer first on your Twilio SMS number, and then, once the end customer responds and your team replies back, automatically switch the thread to your Blooio iMessage number. On the switch, Blooio can append a pre-message or post-message around your reply, so a campaign turns into a saved contact and an ongoing relationship.
How the handoff works
The green bubbles above are SMS from your Twilio number. The blue bubbles are iMessage from Blooio. Here's the full sequence.
1. Open on your Twilio number (SMS)
Cold outreach goes out over SMS from your existing Twilio number: the green bubble that reaches every phone, iPhone or Android, even before the customer has saved you. Your Twilio 10DLC registration and reputation stay exactly as they are.
2. The customer engages
When the end customer replies and your team responds back, Blooio knows the conversation is warm. That two-way engagement is the trigger to move the relationship somewhere higher-converting.
3. Blooio hands off to iMessage
Blooio automatically switches the thread to your dedicated Blooio iMessage number. The reply lands as a blue bubble with read receipts, typing indicators, and reactions, from a real number the customer can save.
4. Auto-append a pre/post message
The Blooio layer can prepend a pre-message or append a post-message around your reply. For example: "This is my work number, save it and reach out anytime." It's configured once and added automatically on every handoff.
What the Twilio integration is not
This is the part people get confused about, so let's be blunt. You cannot make a Twilio number send iMessages, not with Blooio, not with anyone. Apple does not allow SMS/A2P numbers onto iMessage. Blooio's Twilio integration is about connecting your SMS leg to a separate iMessage number, not converting one into the other.
Want blue bubbles from the very first message instead? That's standard Blooio. Send iMessage directly from your Blooio number via the iMessage REST API or a native integration like GoHighLevel or HubSpot.
When to use Hybrid Mode
Abandoned-cart recovery
