# How Does the Blooio Shared Plan Work?

> Blooio’s shared plan provides an iMessage-enabled number from a shared pool while keeping each organization’s conversations, contacts, and data isolated.

## Summary

Trial and shared-plan customers receive an iMessage-enabled phone number from Blooio’s shared pool. The number acts as a gateway: Blooio routes conversations and replies to the organization that initiated them.

Shared numbers are designed for trials, testing, low-volume, consent-based outreach, and getting started. Sharing a number does not mean sharing messages or account data.

## How It Works

1. **Receive a shared number.** Blooio assigns an iMessage-enabled number from its shared pool.
2. **Start the conversation.** Send the first message through the Blooio dashboard, REST API, or an integration.
3. **Receive replies.** When the contact replies, Blooio’s routing engine identifies the organization that initiated the conversation and delivers the reply only to that organization.
4. **Keep conversations separate.** Each conversation is tied to the initiating organization at the routing level.

If two organizations using the same shared number message the same contact, each organization has a separate conversation thread. Replies are routed to the appropriate organization.

## Privacy and Isolation

Blooio isolates shared-number conversations at the organization level.

- Messages are routed exclusively to the organization that initiated the conversation.
- Other businesses using the same shared number cannot view your conversations, contacts, or associated data.
- You cannot view messages, contacts, or data belonging to other organizations.
- Conversations are tied to an organization at the routing level.
- Isolation is enforced at the infrastructure level, not only in the dashboard interface.

## Shared Plan Limitations

### You Must Start the Conversation

Inbound-first messaging is not supported on shared or trial numbers. Because multiple organizations use the same number, Blooio cannot determine which organization an unsolicited inbound message is intended for.

After you send the first message, the contact can reply normally.

### Voice Calls Are Not Supported

Voice calls are not available on shared or trial plans because calls to a shared number cannot be routed to one organization.

Businesses that need inbound-first messaging or calling should consider a dedicated number. Voice calling, FaceTime, and call forwarding are included on eligible dedicated plans; see the pricing page for current details.

### Daily New-Contact Limit

Shared and trial plans have a daily limit on new contacts, measured on a rolling 24-hour window.

The limit applies to new conversations. Messages within existing conversations are not subject to the new-contact limit.

## When to Use a Shared Number

A shared plan can be appropriate for:

- Evaluating Blooio with a free trial
- Testing the API, an integration, or an automation
- Low-volume, consent-based outreach
- Sending the first message to contacts who are expected to hear from you
- Getting started before upgrading to a dedicated number

A dedicated number is recommended for higher volumes, a consistent business identity, inbound-first messaging, or calling needs.

## Upgrading to a Dedicated Number

You can upgrade from the Blooio dashboard through the Purchase page by choosing a dedicated plan. Your dedicated number is provisioned separately from the shared number.

For current plan availability, features, and pricing, review the Blooio pricing page.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Can customers text me first on a shared number?

No. You need to initiate the conversation through the dashboard, API, or an integration. Once the conversation exists, the contact can reply normally.

### Can other businesses on the shared number see my messages?

No. Conversations, contacts, and associated data are isolated by organization. Other businesses using the number have no visibility into your account’s conversations.

### What happens if two businesses message the same person?

Each organization has its own isolated conversation thread. Replies are routed to the organization associated with the conversation it initiated.

### Is the shared plan suitable for production?

The shared plan can support testing, getting started, and lower-volume use cases. Dedicated numbers are recommended for higher volume, consistent business identity, inbound-first messaging, and calling requirements.

### Is there a daily limit on the shared plan?

Yes. Shared and trial plans have a rolling 24-hour new-contact limit. Messages within existing conversations are not subject to that new-contact limit.
